This is a real treat and something we're very excited about to offer you. Collected here for the first time are 12 of 60Ft Dolls drummer Carl Bevan's brilliant, vibrant paintings of familiar Cardiff scenes – some only recently finished – reproduced in high quality, as part of a 2021 wall calendar. Let's hope next year is a damn sight better than 2020 and worthy of this lush calendar.
This beautiful ringbound wall calendar measures 42cm x 21cm, which means it's wonderfully big and (like Carl and his art) it's somewhat unorthodox, but we wanted to make sure the format leant itself to showing off the fab paintings in the best way possible. Each month has a different Cardiff scene, such as Castle Arcade, Cardiff Bay, Bute Park, Roath Park, Thompson's Park and Womanby Street. As a bonus, we've also written about each location, bringing you a few fun facts and some dubious trivia. |

This calendar really does look bute-iful. Each month reveals another stunning scene (12 in total, believe it or not) with the artwork alone measuring 24.5 x 21cm – so nice and big. The cover, right, shows wonderful Castle Arcade, chosen for the month of December. |

Carl's unique acrylic painting style echos the romance of impressionism, carry a life-affirming vibrance and warmth, and recall a hint of psychedelia. He gives his works brilliant titles, like "If I was Roald Dahl's dog, this is where I would do my finest dog business" (Llandaff Fields), or "Gareth Bale, I will never forgive you for Dempsey's" (Womanby Street), an insight into the man's sense of humour. So grab a calendar while you can and enjoy a selection of quintessential Cardiff scenes, many of which we've so missed this past few months. |

As a fan of 90s Newport band 60Ft Dolls I was thrilled to discover that drummer Carl Bevan is a talented self-taught artist and a Cardiff local, who is inspired in his creativity by our city. (A print of his Mermaid Quay masterpiece – August – was my mum's birthday present this year.) So it's a real honour to undertake this high quality collaboration which began with a post-lockdown, socially distanced coffee on Roath rec.
This is a high quality product professionally printed in Splott by specialists PhotoProlab. With thanks to Darren from Treganna Design too, for making it look really classy. |
